App Update for Mac OSX

I don't know many Apple Mac owners that haven't downloaded a number of third-party applications to make their lives easier.  Trouble is, keeping each of those applications current is an app-at-a-time exercise.  Enter App Update, a freeware widget for the Mac that will scan your third-party installed applications and let you know which ones have newer versions.  Event better, it provides you a link to the the third-party developer website so you can download the update if it doesn't update automatically when you open it.

So why keep track of out-dated software?  Two reasons: security and performance.  If a vulnerability is identified in the operating system or an exploit is discovered in a third-party application, ensuring you stay on the currently release is a smart decision. Additionally, as the Mac OSX operating system advances, often times third-party software developers will release newer versions of their products to ensure compatibility and take advantage of performance items. The upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard OSX gave publishers the opportunities to take advantage of a number of speed performance issues. This application can be downloaded from the Apple Website Downloads page. A companion desktop widget called Widget Update from the same developer is also available.
